SIR completes Iranian studies course for the Netherlands’ Leiden University students

The School of International Relations offered an intensive course on "Contemporary Iranian studies and Farsi language" for six students from Leiden University of the Netherlands. The three-month course ran from mid-February till the end of May. During the course, the students studied Farsi language and literature, Iran"s political and economic issues, geopolitics of Iran and it"s relations with world powers, the Islamic Republic and the Middle East, as well as the Iranian people"s social etiquette. In addition to pedagogical sessions, the students visited various science, educational and cultural centers in the capital, Tehran, and Kermanshah, Isfahan as well as Yazd provinces.

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Mohammad Hassan Sheikholeslami, dean of the School of International Relations, discussed reasons behind his decision to offer such a course for international students. He also touched upon the significance of Iranian studies course in public diplomacy and the roles it can play in introducing Iran"s political, economic and cultural agenda. The Leiden University students also took the opportunity to talk about their experience during their stay in Iran. All of them, at the end of their course, received SIR certificates of attendance and Persian handicrafts.
